If a spring has snapped, book the spring repair instead. The tune-up comes with it. Either way, you hear the total at the door before we start.
Signs your door is due
- Squeaks or grinding as it moves

- It drifts down from halfway, or won't stay open
- Bolts and brackets that have worked loose
What the tune-up covers
Hinges and roller bearings get lubed.
We check the balance and set the spring tension so the door holds halfway on its own.
Bolts that years of vibration have backed out get tightened.
We check the sensors and test the safety reverse.
Test your door's balance
With the door closed and the spring above it in one piece, pull the red release cord hanging from the opener rail. Lift the door by its handle to about halfway, then let go slowly with your hands close. A balanced door stays put. If it drifts down or creeps up, the spring has lost tension and the opener is lifting weight it wasn't sized for. Lower the door by hand and reconnect the opener the way its manual shows.
Leave the spring tension to us
If your door fails that test, please don't adjust the spring. Setting tension means winding a spring with enough stored energy to break bones. Balancing is part of the tune-up, so call and we'll set it.
